Linux Defiant

Linux Defiant focuses on streaming video, audio and home theater applications to set it apart from Xubuntu 14.04 which it is based upon. Currently in beta it’s still got a few flaws but is otherwise a great attempt.

The only real problem is the inability to create a user account or encrypt the hard drive during installation. Once installed you have to edit the account name and create a new password to secure the system. Otherwise anyone can simply google the default password and crack into your desktop.

Defiant features a few cool modifications that make it worth checking out. DejaDup backups ready to go with a prominent icon on the panel. A simple update terminal, and a cool borderless dropdown terminal for everything else.

It’s major flaw. a Windows logo on the Whisker Menu? Well at least that’s easy to fix.
