Kicking my old webhost to the curb in favor of scalable Linux powered, SSD hosted services at Digital Ocean. My former hosting at Domain.com was incredibly slow. Super stable but slow.
The key features that moved me to Digital Ocean
- Multiple Linux distributions to host from, CentOS, Debian, Fedora, and Ubuntu
- Pre-built Ubuntu droplets to quickly set up WordPress, Ghost and several other online services
- Server Snapshot backups (and restorations)
- Snapshot servers can be saved for free if you choose to destroy the droplet for awhile.
- Hourly pricing starting at $0.007 per hour up to $5.00 max for the month.
- ssh login to the server via terminal which allows for installation of any application in the repositories.
The only con using this service is the inability to register your domain from them directly.
